This project was done for a couple whos children had left home & they wished to downsize & move into the countryside. They saw our other chalet bungalow project and asked us to refurbish theirs.
This was a challenging project as the house was again, built on a steep hillside and the work was undertaken during the ‘beast from the east’ in late 2017 into spring 2018.
The home had last been updated in 1987 but was done in a shabby way and the client wished for a large, living/dining/ kitchen area front to back in the house, a large 2 storey extension to the rear, 4 new bathrooms, a large outside dining area built into the hillside, a large garage built into the hillside, a new driveway with additional parking, a viewing area overlooking the countryside to the front, a new roof, all new services (electrics, water & security) and finishes to a very high standard.
We liaised with our preferred architects to fulfil the brief & the Local Authority as the house is built in an AONB.
The rear of the house was demolished & rebuilt, a new design orientated was fitted (designed by our preferred kitchen designer), with a bi-fold door was fitted. The roof was removed (we used our own in house scaffolding team to form the weatherproof structure over the house) and then refurbished and updated the entire house, including new bathrooms x 4, a new staircase, taking out walls with sign off from our engineers & installed a modern wood burner to Hetas standards. The entire house was plastered and painted.
The garage was excavated along with the outside dining area and in total, some 300 tonnes of chalk and clay were removed. We organised large, 8 wheeled trucks to remove the earth and liaised with the local community as this could have caused a substantial gridlock to the village (it is a narrow lane serving approximately 60 houses).
We also organised all fittings and finishes including carpets and decorative lighting to the clients specification, so the clients moved in on time.
